Craniosacral Unwinding FAQ

What is Craniosacral Unwinding?

Craniosacral Unwinding is a system of gentle touch designed to enhance the functioning of the membranes, tissues, fluids, and bones surrounding or associated with the brain and spinal cord. It is a very powerful energy medicine that helps heal trauma, move forward in life when feeling stuck, and deepen your sense of connection with yourself.

What is a session like?

This 50 minute session consists of an initial discussion about your intentions for the session, followed by hands on therapy during which you typically lie on your back on a treatment table. Craniosacral sessions may involve dialog to help facilitate accessing the internal landscape and unlock trapped energy, or may be held in silence, simply allowing the unwinding to take place organically. Typically, the session weaves between periods of silence and dialog. As the practitioner, I move between the poles of employing specific protocols to elicit a desired physiological response to moving intuitively to areas of the body that are asking for care.

What should I expect after a session?

In a word… change. As trapped energies are released, various responses ensue. You may feel energized after a session, or go to sleep for twelve hours. At the ends of the continuum, you may feel elated, or may be cry for a time as you metabolize the grief that the craniosacral work has enabled you to process. Whatever the case, craniosacral unwinding helps you to reconnect with your life energy and become more integrated and in alignment with your true nature. This process is often turbulent, but in all cases results in a deeper connection with your yourself and your life energy.

How many sessions do I need?

In craniosacral unwinding work, the client is encouraged to attune to his or her intuition and be guided by the “still silent voice” within. Thus, you may need only one session, or you may feel that you need to come in regularly for a while. Because of the nature of this energetic work, the healing continues after leaving the session. Therefore, depending upon your circumstances, you are often encouraged to allow space for the healing to unfold, leaving several days or sometimes even weeks or months between follow up sessions.
